If you want to access the Internet via WLAN in Windows 7, you must first activate WLAN on your computer. Our instructions will help you and show you how this works with a key combination and via the network settings.
Windows 7: Activate WLAN
The easiest way to activate WLAN on many notebooks is by pressing a key combination. To do this, press the [Fn] keys and another function key. Which one exactly varies depending on the manufacturer and model. You can recognize the button by a radio symbol at F1 to F12. Otherwise, proceed as follows:
- Right-click on the network icon in the task bar at the bottom right: either this is a WLAN icon or a computer with cables.
- Now select Network and Sharing Center in the context menu.
- In the new window there is a column on the far left with various entries. Click on "Change adapter settings" there.
- Now Windows shows you all LAN and WLAN options. Right-click on the "WLAN" entry and select "Activate" in the context menu.
- If it is activated, click on "Connect" (see picture). Now you can select a WiFi network and log in with the access key.
