Set up WiFi printer under Windows 7 - how it works
Setting up a WiFi printer in Windows 7 is almost as easy as using a cable printer. We show you how the initial installation works.
Set up a WiFi printer under Windows 7
The installation of a WiFi or network printer is very easy with the Windows 7 setup wizards.
- Open the control panel.
- Select the "Devices and Printers" menu.
- Above the device list, you can set up a new device with "Add printer". Your computer will now automatically search for new, available devices and list them after a few seconds (see picture). Normally your device will be found and you can install it with a double click and then print directly.
- If the wizard does not find the printer, you can use the "The printer you are looking for is not listed" button to enter the printer's IP address manually using the "Add printer using a TCP / IP address" option. You can get this directly from the printer or from your router. Then the installation should work.
- If you want to continue using special functions of the printer such as scanner or fax, you often have to install the original driver from the CD or the manufacturer's website beforehand.
If you have a Fritzbox, we will show you another practical tip on how to connect your WiFi printer to your Fritzbox. You can even share your printer over the Internet to access it from anywhere.
