WiFi on the go: these are the options
If you want to save your data volume on the go, you can also use a WiFi network for mobile access to the Internet. In this practical tip, we will show you the different options.
WiFi on the go: The HotSpots
- The expansion of HotSpots is progressing in Germany. Numerous large companies such as McDonalds, H&M and IKEA offer free WiFi in their branches. WiFi is also free in various city centers. Here you will find an overview of the free HotSpots.
- In addition to the HotSpots, there are also comprehensive WLAN networks from Telekom and Unitymedia. With WLAN TO GO and WifiSpot, customers' routers are also used as public hotspots. As a customer of the Internet provider, access to such a network is free of charge, as an outside party it is available for a fee.
WiFi on the go: Mobile WiFi router
- If you want to surf via WLAN regardless of location-based HotSpots, you can do this with a mobile WLAN router. These are compact devices that send their own WLAN network by inserting a SIM card.
- The mobile router receives the Internet signal via the SIM card. For this purpose, the cheapest possible flat data rate is worthwhile. For very fast WLAN or if several people are in the WLAN at the same time, a data flat rate with LTE speed can also be worthwhile.
- You can get the Huawei E5330 and the TP-Link M5350 from Amazon for around 40 to 50 euros. Mobile WiFi routers with LTE (4G) are somewhat more expensive. The TP-Link M7350 costs around 90 euros.
- Many Internet providers such as 1 & 1 offer a mobile WLAN router and SIM card in one package. Sometimes you can make a bargain, but the comparison is worthwhile.
- If you need mobile internet for your laptop, a surf stick will probably suffice for you. Almost every mobile operator has suitable devices and tariffs on offer.
