With WiFi in your garden, you can also enjoy the use of social media outside, listening to podcasts or watching a movie night during a mild summer evening. Read here how to get internet access in the garden.
WiFi in the garden through access point
You have several options for WiFi access in the garden. A WLAN access point is one of them.
- With a WLAN access point you can enjoy permanent Internet access outdoors. Because this is a second WLAN location of your main router. The connection therefore has the same quality.
- To do this, lay a cable from your router indoors to the second device outdoors.
- The WLAN access point is especially useful if you have cameras or other outdoor technology that needs Internet access. The disadvantage here, however, is the high power consumption, since the device must be in constant operation.
Repeater with USB power connection
A WLAN repeater enlarges the radio cell of your router.
- A repeater is a type of radio station that picks up your router's WLAN signal and forwards it to other receivable devices.
- There are two versions: a repeater that can be charged via a USB port and that you can therefore move around in the garden and one with a power supply that you plug into a socket.
- The disadvantage here, however, is that the repeater reduces the bandwidth of your connection by half.
WiFi in the garden through Powerline
Powerline plugs are a pretty easy way to get internet in the garden.
- The Powerline is a small adapter that you can attach to an outdoor socket. The data stream is sent to this device via the power line. The Powerline adapter then converts this data stream as a WLAN connection.
- You need two devices to connect to the Powerline. Firstly, the Powerline adapter. This picks up the signal from the WLAN router and sends it via the mains. The second device is the WLAN Powerline adapter, which picks up that signal from the socket and sends it out again.
- The quality of the connection in the outdoor area is therefore the same as your main connection and remains stable.
Set up WiFi mesh
A WiFi mesh system is another great way to connect to the internet in the garden.
- A WiFi mesh system consists of several routers. A main router distributes the signal to the other devices, which are all connected wirelessly.
- The connections of all routers of such a mesh system are stable and keep the same bandwidth.
- Such a mesh system is also suitable for indoor use if thick walls or other disruptive factors impair your connection in living rooms.
