Wifi reapeater or access point - what's the difference?
If you want to expand your WLAN network, you should know the difference between repeaters and access points. We clarify it.
The difference: WiFi repeater vs. Access point
- WLAN repeater: With a repeater you can expand your WLAN network if necessary. The radio signal is intercepted and emitted again, so that the range increases. Every modern router can actually work as a repeater.
- Access Point: An access point not only looks like a router, but also works almost exactly like it. In contrast to the repeater, the signal is not received and forwarded via WLAN but via LAN. The access point then transmits on a different channel than the router.
- Comparison: With an access point you can usually achieve a longer range with a faster connection. For home use, however, a repeater is sufficient, which only forwards the signal.
In the next practical tip, we will introduce you to the three best repeaters.
