Connect the WLAN stick to the XBOX 360
If you have an older XBox 360, you need an original "Xbox 360 ™ Wireless Networking Adapter" from Microsoft to connect the console to the Internet via WLAN stick. The WLAN adapter is already installed in the newer XBox 360 Slim models. However, no random USB WLAN sticks work, only the original offered by Microsoft. To connect this WLAN adapter to your XBox 360, proceed as follows:
Connect XBox 360 to the Internet using a WLAN stick
If you own an XBox that was purchased before 2010, you should make sure that the XBox has installed the dashboard update. Only with this update does the WLAN adapter support the WPA2 encryption that most routers have today. If you have never connected the XBox to the Internet, you should do so with a LAN cable to install this update. Then you can continue with point one.
- Plug the adapter into the USB port on the back of the console.
- Now navigate in the "My XBox" menu to the right up to the "System Settings" and look there for "Network Settings".
- Select "wireless connection" there to let the XBox search for available networks.
- Follow the step by step instructions to install the network.
"SSID" is the name of the router and "network key" is the password for the router.
