What do I need a Blackberry option for?
In this practical tip, we explain what a Blackberry option is and what you need it for.
Blackberry option is required for older models
In order to be able to use Blackberry cell phones with the operating system OS 7 or older in full, you have to book a so-called Blackberry option with your mobile phone provider. You can only use the phone to its full extent with this addition.
- Old Blackberry smartphones contact the in-house RIM server for most actions. This provides additional security, especially for business customers, and compresses your requested data to save volume.
- Blackberry is particularly well-known for fast and data-friendly e-mail queries. Mails are compressed and pushed immediately and without detours via the RIM server. In order to use this function on old blackberries, a Blackberry option is mandatory.
- Functions such as the browser, MMS and Messenger also transmit via the RIM server. In order to be able to access the Internet without a Blackberry function, you have to install an alternative browser.
- To add the BB function to your contract, contact your current provider. Depending on the contract, additional costs may arise for the option.
Blackberry OS 10: no additional BlackBerry function required
If you are using a current BlackBerry smartphone with BlackBerry OS 10, a BlackBerry option is no longer necessary. This means that you can use the cell phone at no additional cost and do not have to do without important functions.
