Word 2010: Calculate in a table
Not only in Excel, but also in Word 2010, calculations can be calculated using simple formulas in a table. For example, you can skillfully compare income and expenditure or add up individual prices. Read here how it works.
Add the overlying cells in a Word table
- First create a table using the table styles and enter the desired table headers and values in the cells.
- If you would like to add the values one above the other, place the cursor (as shown in the picture) in the cell in which the result is to be located and then go to "Layout" in the table menu and then the "Formula" button in the top right.
- A new box now appears in which the correct addition formula "= SUM (ABOVE)" has already been entered.
If you use this formula, all the values lying one above the other in the column are added. However, if there is a gap in your table, you should rather use the formula "= SUM (b2: b5)" (values according to the example) with absolute cell references.
- In Word, too, the columns are labeled with letters from AZ and the lines with associated numbers. As you can see in the screenshot, you should not forget that the rows with column headers must also be included.
Subtraction or multiplication in Word table format
For example, if you want to calculate the difference between two values and multiply the numbers, proceed as described in Section 1, but you must use your own formula.
- For example, to calculate the difference between income and expenditure (as in the screenshot), you have to set the formula "= b6-c6" in the example.
- When multiplying, you have to multiply the two values using the "*" - For example "= b3 * d7".
In both cases, however, you must strictly ensure that the number format is "#. ## 0.00 €; (#. ## 0.00 €)". (see screenshot) This is how Word will format your result in euros. With [ALT] + [F9] the field functions (inserted formulas) are shown and can be edited. These can also be hidden again using the same key combination.
