If you are bothered by the Word autocorrection, you can safely switch it off. Words are often incorrectly corrected or punctuation marks converted into smileys. We show you for various Word versions how you can set the auto correction options.
Step 1: Open auto correction options
- Office 2013: Click on the "File" tab at the top and select the "Options" item in the bottom left. Under "Document Review" you will now find the "AutoCorrect Options".
- Office 2010: Click on the "File" tab at the top and select the "Word Options". Under "Document Review" you will now find the "AutoCorrect Options".
- Office 2007: Click the Office button at the top left of the screen and select "Word Options" at the bottom right. On the left in the menu you will now find the "Document check" under which you can see the "Auto correction options".
- Office 2003: Click the "Tools" button at the top of the menu and select the "AutoCorrect Options" item.
Step 2: disable Word AutoCorrect
- Here you will find numerous functions under the "Auto correction" tab that you can deactivate in auto correction.
- If you don't want to use auto correction at all, you can remove all the ticks. If you only interfere with individual functions, such as capitalizing words at the beginning of a sentence or converting punctuation marks into smileys, you can only remove individual ticks (see picture).
- Then apply your settings by clicking the "OK" button.
You can also do this in Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint and other office programs.
