The "AutoComplete" function can be both a blessing and a curse in Word. We'll show you how to use or disable the tool correctly.
Word: Switch autocomplete on and off
In this practical tip, we use the Office version 2013. Among other versions, the functions can be arranged differently or titled.
- Click the "File" tab at the top and select the "Options".
- Then a small window opens. Go to the "Advanced" category on the left.
- Under the "Editing functions" you will find the option "Show AutoFill suggestions".
- You can now activate or deactivate them if you wish.
- If you then click the "OK" button, your settings are applied.
Word: Use AutoComplete correctly
If you have activated the function, you must then feed Word with information. You can insert the AutoComplete commands using text modules:
- First write down the entire text block. For example, "Yours sincerely".
- Select the text you want and press the [Alt] + [F3] keys at the same time. Then a small window opens.
- Enter a "code word" in the top line. As soon as you type this word into Word, the entire text module is automatically inserted. We use "MfG" as the code word here.
- You can also fill in the other fields on request. Then click the "OK" button.
- If you now enter "MfG" in Word, a small message box will appear. If you tap on [Enter], the entire text block will be inserted.
- You can now repeat these steps for all text modules. You can subsequently manage all code words under the "Insert" tab under the "Quick blocks".
