Word: Forgot document password - what to do?
If you have forgotten the password for a Word document, you can get back to the data with little tricks. We'll show you how to solve the problem.
Word: Forgot document password
Password protection is particularly difficult to crack in the newer versions of Word 2010 and 2013.
- Depending on how the file is protected, you can do it differently. If you have access to the document and just cannot edit it, simply save it as a TXT file and then copy the text into a new document. If you can't see the document at all, the following tips will help you.
- If you have assigned the password yourself, think again about the exact time of the assignment. Did you use the same password as always or did you choose a completely new one?
- Make sure you type properly and don't make any capitalization mistakes. Also check whether the Caps Lock key is activated on the left of the keyboard.
- You may also have made a mistake when entering your password. Check whether a letter is missing from a conceivable password or whether the second letter was also capitalized by mistake.
Word: Crack document password
The password is securely encrypted by Word, so that decryption is not possible. However, the password can be read out in installments by a so-called brute force attack. Countless combinations are simply tried out every second.
- For legal reasons, various tools for cracking passwords have disappeared over time. Unfortunately there are currently only paid offers.
- The Advanced Office Password Recovery program cracks the passwords relatively reliably, but this will cost you at least 50 euros. For only one file, this use is only worthwhile in very few cases.
- The Word Password Recovery tool is much cheaper for around $ 20. It works even cheaper on the website Password-Find.com. However, the service is unable to cope with Word files from Office 2013.
