Word: Remove double spaces - how it works
If you type quickly, double spaces can easily creep in, but you can easily remove them with Word. In this practical tip, we reveal how to do this.
Remove spaces using the grammar checker
- In the document, open the menu "File"> "Options"> "Document review".
- Click "Settings" to access the grammar settings.
- Place a checkmark next to "space between words or sentences" and confirm with "OK".
- If you now start the spelling and grammar checker, you will see the double spaces. You can correct them by clicking on "Change".
Alternatively: Correction via "Replace"
- Use the key combination [Ctrl] + [H] to open the "Replace" window.
- Enter two spaces and the following abbreviation {2;} in the "Search" field.
- Enter a single space in the "Replace" field.
- Expand the dialog window and place a checkmark next to "Use placeholder".
- Word now finds all double spaces and replaces them with a single space with a click.
