Word: Hide individual page numbers - how it works
In Word it is not so easy to hide individual page numbers: changes to the page numbers always affect the entire document. With a little trick it works anyway.
Word: Hide page numbers of individual pages
In order for the consecutive numbering to be broken, you have to divide your text into individual sections. In this example, our document has five pages. On pages 3 and 4 we will hide the page number.
- Switch to the "Insert" tab at the top of Word and select the look of the page number you want under "Page number".
- Click on the last digit on page 2 with the mouse. The new section then starts from page 3.
- Switch to the "Page layout" tab above and select the "Continuous" option under "Breaks".
- If you double-click the footer with the left mouse button, you will see the notes "Section 1" and "Section 2" on the left (see picture).
- Repeat these steps at the end of page 4 so that a third section starts from page 5.
- Select the page number on page 1, right-click on it and select the "Format page number" option.
- Activate the "Start at" option below and put a 1 in the field. Confirm with OK".
- Now switch to the footer of page 3 and deactivate the "Link to previous" option at the top.
- You can now easily delete the page numbers on pages 3 and 4. If there are complications, just color the page numbers white.
In the next practical tip, we will show you how to start the page numbers in Word only from the third page.
