Word: Insert footnote - how it works
In Word, you can insert footnotes with just a few clicks: either using the menu or using a keyboard shortcut. In this guide, we show you step by step how to do this.
Word: How to insert footnote
- Click where in the document you want to add a footnote.
- Click the References tab above.
- The "Insert footnote" icon is now available in the task bar. Click on it.
- Alternatively, you can also insert a footnote into your document using the key combination [Ctrl] + [Alt] + [F].
- Word counts the number of footnotes in the document, numbers the footnote for them and jumps to the bottom of the page. Here you can add the information to the footnote in the document.
- Tip: You can then format the footnotes precisely.
