Word: Set hyperlinks to text passages
If you would like to guide the reader through a longer Word document, you can set hyperlinks to text passages such as headings for better clarity. In this way, you can create tables of contents like Wikipedia and structure your document. We'll show you how.
Set hyperlinks to text passages in Microsoft Word
In this example we explain the procedure using a table of contents:
- Open Word and create a small table of contents (see picture). Now write the respective headings below, making sure that you also format them as headings under the "Start" tab.
- Now mark the first item in the table of contents, right-click on it and select "Hyperlink" or "Link" from the context menu. This is called differently depending on the version of Office.
- Select the menu item "Current document" on the left and select the correct one from the headings. Then click the "OK" button.
- If you hold down the "Ctrl" key while clicking on the link, you will reach the linked heading.
The same procedure can also be used in other office programs such as Powerpoint. Here you can use hyperlinks to jump back and forth between individual slides, for example.
