Word: Enter the special character "x quer" - how it works
You won't find the special character "x quer" in Word. We'll show you how to create the character.
1.1: Create special characters "x quer" (newer versions of Word):
To include the special character in newer versions of Word, you have to expand the auto-correction rules.
- Open Word.
- Click on "Options" under the "File" tab.
- Then click on "Document review" in the left bar.
- In the right field, select "Auto correction options ...".
- Now check the "Auto correction rules of mathematics" tab under "Use auto correction rules of mathematics in areas other than mathematics".
- Confirm the open windows with "OK".
- If you now enter "x \ bar" and a space in the Word document, the "x quer" appears.
1.2: Create special characters "x quer" (older versions of Word):
The special character must first be created in older versions of Word.
- Start Word.
- Press the keys [Alt] + [F9].
- Then press [Ctrl] + [F9]. Two braces "{}" appear.
- Insert "eq \ O (x;)" between the curly brackets (without quotation marks).
- Now click behind the semicolon of the string you inserted earlier.
- Click on "Symbol" in the "Insert" tab and select "More symbols ...".
- In the window that opens, select the "Subset" drop-down menu under the "Symbols" tab and click on the "Letters to define distance" item.
- In the symbol selection field, select the "prime" (the line that will later appear above your x).
- Now confirm with "Insert" and "Close".
- If you now press "[Alt] + [F9]" in the Word document, the "x quer" appears.
2: Call up "x landscape" by key sequence (optional)
There is a shortcut for calling up the generated "x quer" for both previous ways.
- Mark the created "x quer" in your word document.
- Click on "Options" under the "File" tab.
- Then click on "Document review" in the left bar.
- In the right field, select "Auto correction options ...".
- In the "Autocorrection of mathematics" tab, you can now replace your "x quer" with any key sequence by entering it in the "Replace:" field.
- Now click on "Add" and confirm the window with "OK".
- If you now enter the key sequence, the "x landscape" is displayed.
Whether the "x landscape" is displayed also depends on the font you use. So make sure you use a common font. We will show you how to add new fonts in another practical tip.
