Word: Automatically adjust the column width of a table
If you have the column width of a table automatically adjusted in a Word document, the width of all columns is aligned with the respective length of the content. Here we explain how you can use Word's AutoAdapt function to display data in the most orderly possible way.
Automatically adjust column width in the Word table
- Click in the table whose column width should be adjusted automatically.
- Select the "Layout" area in the menu bar. (see the screenshot)
- Then go to the large field "AutoAdjust" and select "Automatically adjust content" in the drop-down menu. Word now adjusts the width of the columns to the length of the content.
Word also has an even simpler and quicker trick available: To adjust the column width of the table automatically, you can alternatively double-click on the left cell boundary and the table has the optimal column width.
The tip refers to Microsoft Word 2010. The procedure can vary slightly in other versions.
