Microsoft Word does not start - what to do?
- Troubleshooting: In many cases, Windows can solve the problem on its own. With a special troubleshooting, Windows searches for the causes and fixes them automatically. Windows 7, 8 or newer users need this link, Windows XP or Vista users follow this link.
- Safe Mode: If the problem is caused by add-ins, you should start Word in Safe Mode. To do this, press the "Windows" and "R" keys simultaneously so that the "Execute" command opens. Enter "winword / safe" there and confirm with "OK".
- Add-ins: If Word started in safe mode, click on "File" in the top left corner and select the "Options". You can manage and deactivate them under the category "Add-Ins".
- Repair: If there is a deeper error in Windows, you can repair Word. To do this, open the Control Panel and repair Microsoft Office instead of uninstalling it.
- Further help: You can find other sources of error on the Microsoft website that you can investigate.
