You don't have to be a professional to install WordPress manually. These instructions also make it easy for beginners to set up the CMS system.
Install WordPress manually: the requirements
- You need a web host that allows the installation of WordPress and access to your web server via FTP.
- A MySQL database version 5.0 or higher is also required.
- PHP 5.2.4 or higher must be available.
- The PHP memory limit should be at least 32 MB, but better 256 MB.
- The Apache mod_rewrite module is advantageous because you can use it to create so-called speaking URLs. These are particularly important for search engine optimization.
- If in doubt, ask your web host in advance whether the minimum requirements are met. Basically, all paid hosters have the requirements for WordPress. You can run into problems with free webspace.
Copy WordPress via FTP to the web space
- First download the latest WordPress version to your computer.
- Then unzip the archive - e.g. B. with 7-Zip.
- Log in to your server via FTP. You will receive the access data from your provider if you do not already have them.
- Copy all files from the WordPress folder to your web space.
- Attention: Do not send the complete "wordpress" folder, but open it and copy only the subfolders "wp-admin", "wp-content" and "wp-includes" as well as all visible individual files to your server.
Create MySQL database
- In the next step you create the MySQL database at your host. The process can differ depending on the provider.
- If you don't find an entry "phpmyAdmin" or "MySQL" in the cPanel, ask your host for instructions.
- Usually there is a point called "Create MySQL Database" or something similar.
- During the creation you have to assign a database name, the table prefix, a user name and a password. The database server must also be entered.
- You can freely assign the database name. "Wp_" is always specified as the table prefix. Since WordPress is often visited by hackers, you should make it a little more difficult for this group of people. Just change the prefix. This could then e.g. B is called "xed_". It is important that you do not forget the underscore at the end.
- It is possible that the username and password have already been specified by your provider. You will receive appropriate information about this from the system.
- The database server always depends on the provider. You will also receive information from your host.
- Write this data down because you will need it in the next step.
Final install WordPress
- Open your browser and enter the following without quotes in the address field: "www.yourwebadresse.de/wp-admin/install.php".
- If all the necessary files are available on your web space, you will be shown an installation interface.
- If a file is missing, you will be informed. You should then upload them again via FTP.
- Click the "Let's go" button.
- Now you will be asked for the access data for the database you have just created. Enter everything and check the entries for typing errors.
- In the next step, you define a blog title - you can change it later easily - and enter your email address.
- Then assign a user name and set a password. You have to remember this data well, because with it you will always log in to the dashboard, your WordPress workspace. The address for this is "www.yourwebsite.de/wp-admin".
- To have Google list your page, tick the option "I want my blog to appear in search engines like Google".
- Now the installation is finished and you can create your first page in WordPress.
