When configuring your router, you can choose between WPA or WPA2. We'll tell you which security standard is the most secure for wireless networks.
WPA or WPA2 - which is better?
WPA stands for "Wi-Fi Protected Access", WPA2 represents the further development of "protected WLAN access".
- WPA: The somewhat old standard uses RC4 for encryption. According to today's standards, however, this method is considered relatively unsafe and outdated. Professionals could easily penetrate your network.
- WPA2: The newer standard uses the encryption standard AES, which is also used by US authorities to encrypt documents, among other things. AES is currently one of the most common and most secure encryption methods.
- Conclusion: The main weak point of the two standards lies in the password. Therefore, use encryption by WPA2 and set a secure password.
