Set up XBMC on Raspberry Pi
With Kodi - formerly known as XBMC - you can set up your Raspberry Pi as an extensive media center. We show you exactly how to do this.
Install Kodi on SD card
You can install the media center on the Raspberry Pi using an SD card. It is best to use a memory card with at least 2 GB. This will help you avoid potential storage problems.
- Download the OSMC (Raspbmc). Unzip the .zip file and run the program.
- Connect your SD card to the computer.
- Select the desired SD card in the installation program, confirm the license conditions and press "Install".
- Kodi or XBMC is now installed on the SD card. Once the process is complete, you can close the program and remove the memory card.
Install and set up Raspberry Pi: Kodi (XBMC)
- Connect an HDMI cable, a LAN cable and a keyboard to your Raspberry Pi. Also insert the SD card into the device and connect it to the power source.
- Kodi now installs itself automatically.
- Then select German as the language and follow the rest of the setup.
- You can now use the Kodi (XBMC) on your Raspberry Pi.
Kodi (XBMC): Set up network sharing for videos
To avoid having to rely on the storage capacity of the SD card, you can also stream your media over the network:
- To do this, create a folder on your Windows PC and right-click on the file. Then select "Share with ..." and press "Homegroup (read / write)".
- In the Kodi (XBMC), switch to the "Videos" menu. Then select the options "Add videos ...", "Search" and "Add network share".
- A new window is opening up. Select "SMB" as the protocol and enter the IP address of your computer under "Server". Enter the name of the media folder in the "Release" column.
- Finally, enter your computer's username and password. Now you have access to your media folder.
- Alternatively, you can also share your data via an FTP server or create additional network shares.
