Set up XBOX 360 - how it works
Before you can use your Xbox 360, you need to set it up. We will guide you through the initial settings and tell you what you need to take care of.
How to set up Xbox 360 hardware
Before you can make the software settings, you first have to set up your Xbox 360 properly.
- First take the console itself out of the box and remove the protective films.
- Now clear a place where the device can breathe, so that a lot of fresh air can get to the fan. It doesn't matter whether you put the box down or put it down. Just make sure that the DVD drive is always on top.
- Shelf compartments are not ideal, but okay if they are not too full otherwise. It is better if the console is free, for example right next to the screen. In any case, it must be stable.
- Now plug the power supply into the console, then the power cable into the power supply and then into a socket.
- Now you have to connect the console to your TV. An AV cable is included and how you connect it depends on your device. However, an HDMI cable is better anyway, which you usually have to buy extra. The picture is then in HD quality.
- Finally, connect your controller. To do this, insert the batteries and press the Xbox button until it lights up. Also turn on your console. Now press the connection buttons on the back of the controller and on the front of the Xbox 360 so that the controller and console can be found. If you use a cable controller, you can simply plug it in.
Set up Xbox 360 - how it works
After the hardware you have to make some basic software settings.
- When the console is started for the first time, you will be asked for some basic settings.
- Now select your language first.
- Then create a profile. You can also use it to play online later when you activate Xbox Live Gold. Therefore, pay attention to the name you choose.
- Xbox Live Gold is necessary for most online features like multiplayer and costs a monthly fee after a trial month. You activate the test month by entering a code in the menu.
- Before you can go online, you have to set up your connection. However, this step is not absolutely necessary to be able to play.
- Either connect a LAN cable or use WLAN.
- With the old models of the Xbox 360 you need an external WLAN module, the slim version has an integrated WLAN chip.
- If you can and want to use your Xbox 360 WiFi, simply select it from the list and enter your login data as usual.
- With or without internet, all you need now is a game DVD. Press the drive head, insert the DVD and you're ready to go.
Tip: Next, you should update the Xbox 360 firmware. You can read how to do this on the next page.
