Xbox One: Open controller - you should pay attention to this
It only takes a few steps to open your Xbox One controller without damaging it. In this article we tell you what you should pay attention to.
Open Xbox One Controller: Remove side panels
Note: All steps are at your own risk. Unlike the Xbox 360 controller, the screws on the Xbox One controller are not freely accessible, but hidden under two panels on the back. To remove it, do the following:
- Take a small, flat screwdriver and drive it under the panel on the back.
- It is best to start under the left bumper. This is the button that is operated with the left index or middle finger. Lift the cover slightly.
- The cover is held by several clips. Slide a plastic tool or guitar pick under the edge of the cover until it releases from the controller.
- Repeat the process for the cover under the right bumper.
Open Xbox One Controller: Loosen the screws
The controller is held together by five screws. To loosen them, you need a size 8 Torx TR screwdriver.
- Remove the screws that were covered by the bezels.
- They are located near the bumper button and the lower end of the handle on the back.
- If not already done, remove the battery compartment cover of the controller.
- If necessary, also remove the batteries.
- There is a black sticker behind the batteries. Caution: In the next step we ask you to damage the sticker. This will void the manufacturer's warranty. The process is at your own risk.
- Remove the sticker or feel the hole under the sticker and insert it with a screwdriver.
- Now remove the middle screw.
The final steps: Remove the housing
Now you can remove the housing.
- The back should be easy to remove when all five screws have been removed.
- Remove the front of the case. It should also be easy to remove.
- The front panel is a bit sensitive. Make sure you put them down safely.
- The buttons are firmly seated on the inside of the controller. So don't worry about them falling out like opening older Xbox controllers.
