Xbox One: playing online is not possible - what to do?
If you cannot play your Xbox One games in online mode, this is usually due to incorrect Xbox and router settings or a weak internet connection. We'll show you how to solve the problem.
Playing online on Xbox One is not possible: test the connection to the Internet
In order for games to run online on Xbox One, you need a stable and sufficiently fast internet connection.
- Press the menu button on the Xbox controller and then select the "Settings".
- Under the category "Network" you will find the "Network Settings" on the right.
- Select the "Test multiplayer connection" option and wait a moment.
- If you get an error message here, Xbox One will show you the exact problem. If everything is OK, read on in the next paragraph.
Xbox One: Solve online gaming problems
- FritzBox: If your router is a FritzBox, the problem is due to an incompatible standard between Xbox and router. To solve the problem, you have to deactivate the Teredo filter in the settings. You can find detailed instructions in this practical tip.
- Speed test: In the settings under the category "Network" (see 1st paragraph) you can select the option "Detailed network statistics". The following measurements should be achieved for online gaming: 3 Mbit download, 0.5 Mbit upload and a ping of less than 150 milliseconds.
