XBOX One S vs XBOX One - these are the differences
The Xbox One S is the slim version of the Xbox One. The improvements and differences compared to the normal Xbox One are explained below.
XBOX One S vs XBOX One
- The most obvious difference between the two console versions is the size. The Xbox One S is 40 percent smaller than the normal Xbox One.
- In addition, the Xbox One S uses less power and offers more power. The overall performance increases compared to the original Xbox One from 1.31 teraflops to 1.4 teraflops, partly due to the increased GPU clock speed.
- The slim version also has the power supply integrated into the console and there is no longer a Kinect connection on the back. This requires a separately available adapter.
- An important difference between the two consoles is 4K support. In both variants, the image is only scaled up within the game, but the Xbox One S 4K delivers a frame rate of 60 instead of 30 Hertz.
- In addition, HDR is now supported, provided that the connected 4K television enables this option.
- The high resolution of the Xbox One S is particularly important for special UHD Blu-rays and UHD video streams.
- Unlike the Xbox One, you can also watch 4K Blu-rays or Ultra HD Blu-Rays with the slim version.
- Also new to the Xbox One S is an integrated IR blaster, which you can use to control other devices such as TV, audio, video, cable or satellite receivers.
- With the Xbox One S, a new Xbox Wireless Controller with a slim and optimized design has also been released. This also offers a higher wireless range and can be connected to other Bluetooth devices.
Is the XBOX One S worth it?
- If you own a 4K TV with HDR support, the Xbox One S is not only worthwhile as a game console, but also as a 4K Blu-Ray player. The normal Xbox One doesn't offer this.
- These advantages are not visible on a Full HD television. The slim version only scores with the minimally better performance and reduced size.
- True 4K gaming does not offer Xbox One or Xbox One S, only 4K upscaling is used when gaming.
In addition to the Xbox One and its slim version, the Xbox One X will be released soon. All information about the hardware, the price and the release can be found in the next article.
