Yahoo Screen: This is how the YouTube clone works
"Yahoo Screen" is a video platform that provides its users with current and viral videos. In this practical tip we explain how "Yahoo! Screen" works.
Yahoo Screen: Quality instead of quantity
Similar to YouTube, "Yahoo! Screen" is a video portal. A major difference, however, is that the range of videos is much smaller than that of the competition. This is mainly due to the fact that there are no users on the video platform who can upload their own video material. Instead, Yahoo uploads selected videos in categories such as "News", "Cinema & TV" and "Comedy" to ensure a better overview and a minimum of quality.
- It quickly becomes apparent that Yahoo wants to create a close relationship with its other services with its in-house video platform. A menu above the video search bar gives you access to all of Yahoo's other services.
- You use "Yahoo Screen" without having to log in. However, in order to follow video channels and comment on their videos, you need a Yahoo account with which you can access all other Yahoo services.
- As a user, your options and functions in "Yahoo Screen" are currently very limited. So far, you have only been able to watch uploaded videos, follow video channels and comment, share and mark videos as "Watch Later".
Development to video streaming service?
In the future, "Yahoo Screen" would like to compete primarily with video streaming services with a wide range of films and series. So far, however, the offer of the video portal has been limited with just a few extracts from television, music videos, video material from other platforms, cinema trailers and current news.
- Yahoo works with online advertising companies, so-called "marketers", to display user-relevant advertising. Yahoo therefore benefits from advertisements that are played in front of the videos on "Yahoo Screen".
To use all functions of "Yahoo Screen" you need a Yahoo account. To ensure the security of your Yahoo account, you should change your password at regular intervals. You can find out how to change your Yahoo password in our practical tip. We also compared Gmail and Yahoo Mail.
