Yahoo: Enable two-factor authentication
Enable two-factor authentication to better secure your Yahoo account. You will then receive an additional security question when you log in on a third-party PC or browser.
Protect your Yahoo account with two-factor authentication
So that you can follow the steps better, we have illustrated them again in our picture gallery.
- First log into your Yahoo account and go into the mail interface.
- In addition to the greeting (eg "Hello, Marius") a gear is shown. Click on "Settings" in this menu.
- A window with your mail settings opens. Under "Accounts", select "Edit account information".
- On the new page you have to log in again to gain access to your security center.
- Under the "Login and Security" settings you will find the option "Set up a second login check".
- Follow the steps now displayed and enter your mobile phone number.
- After you have entered the code from your confirmation SMS, your two-factor authentication is activated.
Use apps despite two-factor authentication
However, two-factor authentication does not work for all applications such as apps. To do this, you have to create passwords manually.
- To do this, go to "Account Information" under "Manage Application Passwords".
- Now you can name a code (e.g. Android app) and receive a random password.
- You can now enter this in your app to gain access to your account.
We will show you how to activate two-factor authentication in Facebook, Twitter or Google+ in further practical tips.
