YouTube on Raspberry Pi - how it works
You can also access YouTube with your Raspberry Pi and tune the mini PC to a small media star. This is not that difficult, because with our instructions only a few steps are necessary.
Rasperry Pi: Use YouTube as an add-on for XBMC / Kodi
The best and most fluid option on the Rasperry Pi: add YouTube as an add-on in the XBMC / Kodi media center. You have to do the following:
- First, install XBMC / Kodi on your Raspberry Pi.
- Start XBMC / Kodi and select "Options"> "Settings".
- In the settings call "Addons" and then open the "Search".
- Now search for "YouTube" and install the add-on.
- Now you can also watch YouTube videos on your Rasperry Pi via your media center.
- For XBMC / Kodi you will find other useful add-ons in our photo gallery.
YouTube in the browser of the Raspberry Pi
Alternatively, you can call YouTube videos on the Raspberry Pi directly in the browser. Unfortunately, the computing power of the Raspberry Pi is often not sufficient to play videos smoothly in the browser. If you still want to try it, you need to consider the following:
- The "Midori" browser is installed by default. However, this is not suitable for YouTube. For this you have to install the "Epiphany" browser.
- First update your system with "sudo apt-get update" and then "sudo apt-get upgrade".
- Then install the browser with "sudo apt-get install epiphany-browser".
- After the installation you can start the browser.
- Activate HTML 5 for YouTube to play the videos.
