Connect YouTube to TV on smartphone
If the screen of your smartphone is too small for YouTube videos, you can connect it to your TV and transfer the video. We'll show you what you need and how to do it.
YouTube: Connect smartphone to TV
The direct transmission of the videos from the YouTube app works for almost all TVs that can connect to the Internet.
- First, both devices must be on the same network. Connect your smartphone to the WLAN, as well as the TV via LAN or WLAN.
- If you start a video in the YouTube app, you can select your television as the output source. The transmission usually has to be confirmed on the television.
- Some TV sets require you to pair your TV and smartphone beforehand. This is done either in the settings of the TV or via a special website on the smartphone.
- Note: Many Smart TVs already have a YouTube app pre-installed. A smartphone is therefore not absolutely necessary.

If your TV cannot be connected to the Internet or does not support transmission, you can also transfer the videos using a tool.
- Chromecast: With the Chromecast stick you can add a small media center to your TV. Chromecast connects to your smartphone and sends the incoming signal directly to the TV. This also works with YouTube videos. The stick currently costs around 35 euros.
- Streaming box: A YouTube app is already installed on the set-top boxes Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV and Roku. However, you can also send the YouTube video from the smartphone to the streaming box. The video is then transferred to the television.
In the next practical tip, we will show you how to change the video resolution in the YouTube app. This way, the videos will also end up on your TV.
