Yu Gi Oh: rules simply explained
Yu Gi Oh have you always wanted to try, but the rules are not yet well known? Get an introduction to the popular card game here.
Yu Gi Oh: General rules for the game
Yu Gi Oh is a popular card game based on the anime and manga of the same name. Here two players duel with different cards. You have the choice between monster cards (these are used to attack the opponent directly), magic cards (these support the strategy with special abilities) and fall cards (monsters are strengthened, weakened and the opponent weakened by falling).
- Ultimately, the player who succeeds in defeating the opponent with his cards wins.
- There are three duels in each game and each player has 8000 Life Points. If a player wins two duels, has no life points or can no longer draw a card, the game is won.
Precise gameplay of a Yu Gi Oh duel and deck of cards
The game itself is played in different phases with a deck of 40-60 cards. In addition to the main deck, there is also an extra deck and a side deck.
- You can use these decks to swap a card from one of the decks with one from the main deck after each turn. The number of cards remains the same before and after the exchange.
Draw phase and standy phase
As soon as the first player draws a card, the game is open and fall and quick spell cards can be activated.
Yu Gi Oh Main Phase 1
Here monster or magic cards are played by the turn player. Either as a normal summon from his hand or by a special summon effect.
Yu Gi Oh fight phase
During this phase, the enemy is attacked. The attacker explains his goal and which monster he attacks with.
- The opponent has the option of using special cards to remove the monster from the field or to summon a new monster on the field before the attack. If this happens, the attacker can decide whether to attack again with the same monster, another monster or not at all.
- If another monster is supposed to attack the opponent, you cannot attack again with the first selected this turn.
- When you attack your opponent's monster, you have to compare your monster's ATK (attack points) with those of your opponent. Only if yours are larger will the difference be subtracted from your counterpart's life points and their card ends up in the card graveyard.
- If you attack a face-down card from the side deck, your ATK must be greater than the opponent's DEF (defense points) to win the attack.
- Rules vs. Card effects - if a card function does not match the rules, the card above the rules applies.
Yu Gi Oh Main Phase 2
Basically, Main Phase 1 repeats itself here. If no monster has been summoned in the first Main Phase, you can do so here. However, it is not a must to place a monster.
End phase in the game
The player declares here that his move has ended. Cards marked "during the end phase ..." must be resolved by the player at this point. If you have more than six cards in your deck, you must put the redundant ones in the so-called card graveyard.
