You can prevent word wrap in Word with just a few settings. We show where you can find them and switch off the break.
Microsoft Word: Prevent line breaks
In some cases, Word inserts a line break, although this is not desired at all, for example when specifying sizes, street names or units. However, the line break can be prevented very easily, here are two simple methods:
- If you want to prevent the line break behind a space, you can enter a so-called "protected space". To do this, use the key combination [Ctrl] + [Shift] + [Space] instead of a normal space.
- You can also insert a hyphen. This works with the key combination [Ctrl] + [Shift] + [hyphen].
- These key combinations move the words before and after the space or hyphen together to the next line. This removes the unwanted line break.
In Word, you can also write in different columns on a page. We explain how this works in this practical tip. Word 2013 was used for these instructions. The procedure may differ for other versions of Word.
