Time management with "Microsoft Outlook"
Microsoft's Outlook is probably the most professional representative in our comparison. Outlook can do much more than just mail - it combines electronic mail, calendars, tasks and, with Lync, even phone, chat, and online meetings. Outlook becomes your command center. It also allows the integration of note programs like OneNote or Evernote.
- Outlook is from Microsoft and thus integrates seamlessly into all programs of the manufacturer, for example in all office programs such as OneNote, Word or Lync. Outlook is standard in many offices, so you can also use your time management system in the office. Time management techniques such as "Getting Things Done" or "Pomodoro" are designed for Outlook - so you have your time management better under control. Outlook combines all the data that is important for time management in one place.
- Outlook costs, but is now also part of the Home Premium version of Office365. Outlook is also on board with all 8-inch Windows tablets and Microsoft Surfaces. If you want to use the full scope of Outlook, you also need an Outlook.com or Exchange account. Exchange access is usually chargeable, you may already have access through your employer.
- Price: Microsoft Office 365 Home Premium currently costs EUR 10 per month for up to five PCs or Macs - including Outlook, 20 GB OneDrive storage space and 60 minutes of Skype talk time per month. If you don't want to go to the cloud, Office Home & Business 2013 without Skype and OneDrive costs EUR 269. The student version is significantly cheaper. Outlook is the most expensive alternative, but you get a full productivity suite for up to five devices.
Time management with "Microsoft To-Do"
Microsoft To-Do is the newest representative in Microsoft's time management business. The app is already available for iOS and Android smartphones, but is still being developed for iPad, Android tablets and Mac. Microsoft To-Do should also be synchronizable with Office 365 Home & Personal and the business suite.
- Microsoft To-Do offers more than just time management. Among other things, you can create a "one day" list. On this you can note down things that you would like or need to do one day, but for which no exact date is known yet.
- If you want to note appointments and notes from different areas of life, you can mark them with a specific color. So you can be sure that you can see everything at a glance.
- You can also write additional notes about an appointment with Microsoft To-Do. This includes, for example, the website of the restaurant that you would like to visit in the evening, or the address of a birthday.
- Price: In addition to an account to download the app, there are no other costs.
Time management with "Todoist"
Todoist is also a task management tool that focuses on simplicity. Todoist offers project management and task assignment like Outlook. There is a good reason for this, Todoist can be integrated into Outlook and offers apps for virtually all platforms and systems. The program also integrates seamlessly into the in-house project management software "Wedoist". This makes Todoist a good alternative between Outlook and Wunderlist.
- Todoist is easy to use and available for your PC, iOS, Android and on the web. The program also offers integration with Outlook, Thunderbird, Gmail and various browsers.
- Todoist Premium offers many useful additional functions. You can set reminders, enter tasks via email or synchronize them with a calendar. Your tasks are also encrypted in the premium version.
