Create timeline in Word
With Word, you can not only write texts, but also create a timeline in just a few simple steps. We explain on this page how exactly this works.
How to create a timeline in Word
To display historical data or other chronological sequences in a timeline, proceed as follows:
- Open a Word document and click on the "Shapes" in the "Insert" menu. In addition to an arrow for the beam, you will also find dashes for the different times.
- To ensure that the timeline and the divided intervals are really even, a "drawing tool" opens in the menu bar after each stroke. Here you can set the shape height to zero under "Font size" to draw a completely straight line. You can also make color and design changes here.
- Finally, you only have to label the intervals, for example with individual years. All you need to do is double-click on the corresponding position on the page.
The instructions are based on Word 2007. Deviations from other versions are minimal. You can also add a timeline in PowerPoint in just a few seconds. Here we show how it works.
