Ventilate the room properly: the best tips
Rooms should be properly and regularly ventilated to prevent mold growth and to create a healthy indoor climate. We give you tips for correct ventilation in this article.
Ventilate properly in occupied rooms
If the windows remain permanently closed or are only opened a crack, enough fresh air cannot flow into the rooms. Above all, however, the room moisture cannot be removed, which can lead to the formation of mold.
- It is recommended to leave the window completely open or tilted at night in the bedroom. At least in warmer seasons, it should be possible to exchange air with fresh air during the night.
- In any case, you should ventilate properly in the morning after getting up in the bedroom by opening the windows wide and ensuring a draft.
- You should also open all windows at least once a day in living rooms such as the living room or study. In this way, moisture can be removed from the rooms and mold can be avoided.
- Especially the rooms, in which plants, damp laundry or indoor fountains that give off a lot of moisture, should be intensively ventilated several times a day.
- Laundry should not be dried in the home because it gives off a lot of moisture. However, if there is no other way, be sure to leave the windows open while drying.
- When ventilating, you should also always create a draft, for example by opening all interior doors and windows of the apartment. This is the best way to exchange air.
Proper ventilation in damp rooms
A lot of moisture can accumulate in a very short time, especially in the kitchen, bathroom and cellar. Therefore, these rooms are more susceptible to mold.
- While cooking, you should at least leave a window tilted so that the water vapor can drain off immediately. Open all the windows in the kitchen when you are done cooking so that no smells can get stuck in the room.
- There should always be good ventilation in the bathroom - through a hood in the wall or through a window.
- Curtains should not be placed in any bathroom. In addition, the water on the walls and floor of the shower should always be drained off.
- Ventilate the bathroom intensively after showering and leave the windows open until there is no more moisture in the room.
- You should also ventilate regularly in the basement, especially in summer, when the hot air penetrates and changes into moisture through the cold basement walls. It is best to ventilate late in the evening or early in the morning in summer.
