You should pay attention to this when enjoying cinnamon while breastfeeding

Women are generally advised against eating cinnamon during pregnancy. It is best to talk to your gynecologist before eating cinnamon to be informed.

• The reason for this is that regular consumption of cinnamon can trigger contractions.
• This problem does not exist during breastfeeding. However, the coumarin contained in cinnamon in large quantities can damage the liver.
• But cinnamon is not the same as cinnamon and the coumarin content depends heavily on the type of cinnamon.
• The healthy Ceylon cinnamon contains significantly less coumarin than the cheaper Cassia cinnamon.
• So if you don't want to do without cinnamon while breastfeeding, go for Ceylon cinnamon.
• However, your baby may experience bloating if you eat cinnamon while breastfeeding. Incidentally, this also applies to other hot spices such as chilli or garlic.
• You should generally avoid cinnamon if you have a pollen allergy. This increases the risk of developing an allergy to cinnamon.
• Not only the coumarin, but also the cinnamon ingredient Safrol can cause allergies.

Cinnamon can also have a positive effect

If you use cinnamon responsibly, that is, always in the right dose, you may be able to benefit from other effects of the spice.

• Cinnamon promotes milk production. If you have little milk, you can counteract this with cinnamon.
• At the same time, the intake of cinnamon delays the occurrence of the first menstruation after pregnancy and thus the likelihood of getting pregnant again quickly.
• The reason for this is also the milk-promoting effect of cinnamon. The hormone prolactin is responsible for milk production.
• This hormone inhibits egg maturation and ovulation. The more prolactin and thus milk is produced, the later the first menstruation will start again.
• Under no circumstances should you consume too much cinnamon. You should generally avoid cinnamon capsules. The unhealthy cassia cinnamon is mostly used here and in very high doses.
