Quoting in Word: the best tips
If you write a scientific paper in Word, manual citation is very time-consuming. We present tips that will make citation easier in MS Office Word.
Word citing tips
The practical thing about Word's citation aid is that you kill two birds with one stone. At the same time, you create a correct source and create a bibliography that you can refer to later.
- Go to the "References" tab after you have quoted your quote.
- Go to the section "Quotes and bibliography" in the ribbon and then click on "Insert quotation".
- In the pull-down menu, choose "Add new source" and first select the corresponding "Source type" in the "Create source" mask. The mask is then modified according to your selection.
- Then enter all relevant information on the origin of your quotation in the mask. If you want to record more detailed information about the source, such as publisher, translator or edition or add a comment, activate the option "Show all bibliography fields".
- After you have entered everything, close the work by clicking on "OK".

- If you need the citation source again later, go to "Insert citation" and select the appropriate source.
- If you would like to edit your collection of quotes, you can do this in the source management. You call this up with the "Manage sources" button.
- After you have finished your work, click on "Bibliography" and let Word insert the table of contents with all relevant information for a correctly designed homework.
- Tip: If you don't have the time to enter the required source information, use a placeholder. To do this, go to "Add new placeholder" in the pull-down menu under "Insert quote" and enter the required information later.
