Generate random number in Excel
Excel has a formula that you can use to generate random numbers. You can find out what it says in this practical tip.
Generate random numbers in Excel
The general formula with which you can generate random numbers is: "= RANDOM NUMBER ()". Any number between 0 and 1 is generated. If you want other random numbers, you have to edit the formula accordingly:
- Random number greater than or equal to 0 and less than X: Enter "= RANDOM NUMBER () * X". Simply replace the "X" with any number.
- Random number should start from 1 and go up to the number X: To do this, type "= RANDOM NUMBER () * (X-1) +1". Replace the X with the highest random number you want. The 1 represents the smallest frame of the random numbers.
Microsoft Excel 2007 was used for this practical tip.
