To save electricity on your smartphone, it can make sense to switch your data connection from UMTS to EDGE. This means that the mobile Internet is slower, but the battery lasts longer. You can find out where you can find the appropriate setting in this practical tip.
Only use EDGE on the Android smartphone
The associated menu item can be located at a different location on every Android device. However, you can usually find it here:
- Open the settings of your smartphone.
- Go to "Wireless & networks"> "More ..."> "Mobile networks".
- Check the box "Only 2G networks". After that, only the EDGE network is used.
Turn off UMTS on iPhone
- Open your iPhone's Settings app.
- Click General> Mobile Network.
- Set the slide switch next to "Activate 3G" to off.
