Install Android apps manually - how it works
If you want to install Android apps that are not available in the Google Play Store, you have to run the installation manually. In this article, we will tell you what you need and how to do it exactly.
Android: Install apps manually - the preparations
For security reasons, by default you can only install Android apps from the Google Play Store. With the right settings and the right installation packages, the programs and games can also be set up manually:
- First open the settings on your smartphone. In the "Security and screen lock" category, activate the item that allows the installation of apps from "unknown sources" or "unsafe origin". Depending on the smartphone and Android version, the menu items may vary slightly.
- For the installation you also need the corresponding installation file of the desired app. It should be in APK format. In our download center you will find the APK files for all common Android tools.
- Also install a free file manager such as "ES File Explorer". You can use this to start the app installation later.
Install Android apps manually - this is how you proceed
If you have fulfilled all three requirements, you can install the desired app:
- To do this, copy the downloaded APK file to your smartphone and start the ES File Explorer.
- Navigate to the corresponding path of the installation file in the app and tap on it.
- Confirm the subsequent warning with "Install".
- Now wait for the installation process to finish. This can take a few seconds or minutes depending on the size of the app.
- You can then find the app in all other apps in the settings or via the shortcut on your home screen.
This way you can also install the free Amazon App Store. Here you can find more apps and games to download.
