Install Arduino driver on Linux
This practical tip shows you how to install the Arduino driver under Linux.
Arduino driver: download and installation on Linux
Before programming with the Arduino board, the driver must be installed:
- Download the drivers and IDE from the Arduino site.
- If you have not already installed Java Runtime, enter the command "apt-get -y install openjdk-6-jre libjna-java libjna-java-doc" and "apt-get -y install extra-xdg-menus",
- Now connect the Arduino board to the PC via USB, the driver should now be installed automatically.
- Start the IDE with "cd arduino; ./arduino". Under "Tools" → "Serial Port" select the port to which the Arduino board is connected.
- To be able to communicate with the board via the serial interface, enter the command "usermod -aG tty $ USERNAME usermod -aG dialout $ USERNAME".
Windows and Mac users have it a little easier, the installation actually works by itself. In the practical tips you can read how to install the Arduino driver for the two operating systems
