Autorun.inf - what is it?
- Let us assume that the autorun.inf file is on an installation CD for a program. If we insert the CD into the computer, Windows recognizes the special file type autorun.inf by the name.
- As the name suggests (autorun = run automatically), the file is started immediately after the CD is recognized. The file always contains information about starting a specific other file. For example, this could be an installation file for a program.
- Summary: The autorun.inf file is always read first and prompts Windows to run a specific file. So you don't have to open certain content yourself.
