Round off image corners in Photoshop - how it works
Beautify your digital pictures by rounding off the picture corners. This practical tip explains how you can master this task with Photoshop.
Create rounded images with Photoshop
- Open the desired image in Photoshop CS6.
- On the Photoshop menu bar, click Chooser, and then click Select All.
- Now select "Selection" again and under "Change selection" the entry "Outline".
- A new window is opening up. The default value is 4 pixels. Leave the setting and confirm the dialog with "OK".
- Under "Selection" select "Change selection" again and now the entry "Rounding off".
- In the new window, enter a desired number such as 10 pixels. The higher the value, the stronger the rounding becomes.
- Right-click on the image and choose "Invert Selection" from the menu.
- Then click on the image again and select "Layer by copy".
- In the Layers window, delete the lowest background layer. If you don't see the window, show it via "Window"> "Layers".
- Note: Do not save the image as a JPG file. The format cannot handle transparency. Instead, choose the PNG format. In another article we explain the differences between the two formats.
