Change boot screen in Windows 8: Boot UI tuner
With the free "Boot UI Tuner" you can deactivate the logo, the charging circle and messages when installing updates. You can find out how to change the boot logo in the next paragraph:
- Download the "Boot UI Tuner" from the manufacturer's website.
- Open the ZIP file, you will find the folders "Windows 8 x64" and "Windows 8 x86". Start the EXE file it contains. Which folder you have to choose depends on your system: You can find out which version you need in this practical tip.
- A new window is opening up. Place a checkmark in front of the desired options or remove it.
- Click on the "Apply" button and then restart your computer.
Change boot logo in Windows 8
Attention: Follow these instructions only if you feel confident using your computer. Be sure to back up your system beforehand. Instructions on how to do this can be found in this practical tip.
- Download the "8oot Logo Changer" and install the program. Deselect any adware offered during installation.
- Click on the "Load Picture" button below and open your desired boot logo. The picture needs the format ".BMP".
- Once you have cropped the image, click on the button with the arrow under the "Edited Pictures" category and then select the desired version.
- Click the "Generate bootres.dll" button and confirm the query with "Yes".
- In Windows 8.1, switch to the "Test Mode" tab above and click "Turn it ON or OFF" here. Then select the "ON" button and confirm the security question. This step is not necessary for Windows 8.
- Switch back to the "Bitmaps" tab and click on the "Backup" button below. Then close the console window by entering any letter.
- Click "Apply" and wait a moment. When the process is complete, you can restart your system. The logo has been changed.
