Store champagne correctly: you have to pay attention to that
In order for champagne to retain its fruity, sparkling aroma, you need to keep it at a good temperature and store it in ideal air humidity.
How to store champagne correctly
Champagne should not be missing at any celebration - from the birthday to the christening of the ship. There are a few things to keep in mind when storing the fine drink.
- Temperature: Champagne feels most comfortable at 6-12 degrees and 70 percent humidity. The best way to do this is in a wine cellar or a wine refrigerator. In this special device you can adjust the temperature and the humidity individually.
- It's too cold in the normal fridge. You should store the sparkling wine there for a maximum of two weeks, otherwise the taste will suffer greatly. For the time in the fridge, the champagne should stay in the warmer vegetable compartment.
- If the bottle is already open, close it with an airtight bottle cap. Otherwise the pearls and aroma will be lost.
- Champagne can be stored upright or horizontally . In both cases, the cork remains moist thanks to the carbon dioxide and the taste is preserved.
- The noble French drink should generally be stored for a maximum of two to five years . In contrast to wine, champagne does not get better with age, but degrades .
- Make sure that no direct sunlight falls on the bottle. That would significantly worsen the bouquet of champagne.
- The sparkling wine is sensitive to foreign smells . There is a risk that the champagne will accept them. Therefore, keep the stored bottles away from strongly aromatic dishes such as onions or garlic.
