Set up email identities in Thunderbird - Here's how
By setting up identities in Thunderbird, you can use alternative sender addresses in emails. Read here why you should do this and how to set up identities.
Identities in Thunderbird - the advantages
With identities in Thunderbird you can easily write emails from all of your addresses without including them all:
- You can send emails from all of your email addresses with just one account set up in Thunderbird - whether for business or personal reasons.
- The recipients see no difference whether you have used an identity or the correct email address.
- In combination with a Google account, you can set up different email addresses for different occasions such as work, home or hobby and manage them all via a Thunderbird account.
How to set up email identities in Thunderbird
- First you have to set up one of your email accounts in Thunderbird. For example, if you would like to send all your emails from home while on vacation, you can also use your private address for this purpose.
- Right-click the email account in the list on the left and open Settings.
- In the window that now opens. select your account again. At the bottom right click on the "More identities ..." button.
- Now you can set up a new identity with "Add ...". Enter the desired name and email address, in whose identity you would like to send the emails from Thunderbird. In the "Reply address" field you can also specify whether replies should be sent to the original address or your home address. You can also set up a separate signature. Then confirm with "OK".
- From now on you can select the created identities in the "From" field when writing a new email. Depending on whether you have defined a signature in the previous window, this will also be automatically inserted into the email when you select the identity.
