Remove ExtraSavings
If ExtraSavings has nested in your browser, you should remove the "virus" immediately. The sooner you do this, the less damage the adware can do.
Step 1: remove ExtraSavings
The malware is adware, which is usually accidentally installed using other software. ExtraSavings not only makes changes to your homepage, but also annoying pop-ups.
- Uninstalling programs: First open the Control Panel and sort the list of programs by the installation date. Then remove all dubious new additions. If that was too fast for you, you will find detailed instructions in this practical tip.
- AdwCleaner: This tool scans your browser and the entire system for adware and removes them.
- Junkware Removal Tool: If you want to play it safe, you can also use this program again.
- Malwarebytes Anti-Malware: Adware rarely comes alone. We therefore recommend that you also check with this free virus scanner.
Step 2: check browser shortcuts
The last remains are mostly found in the shortcuts of the browsers.
- Right-click on the shortcut to open the context menu and select the "Properties".
- Under the "Link" tab, you will find the "Target" input field. There should be nothing behind "" C: \ ... .. \ Mozilla Firefox \ firefox.exe "" here. Remove any entries.
- With a click on "OK" your changes are accepted.
Step 3: reset browser
Since it is not known exactly what changes the adware makes in your browser, you should reset it completely for security reasons. Follow the instructions below for all installed browsers, even if you are not currently using them.
- Google Chrome
- Mozilla Firefox
- Internet Explorer
We will show you how to check individual files online for viruses in the next practical tip.
