Internet Explorer Downgrade: Reset IE to an older version
If you don't like the latest version of Internet Explorer, you can downgrade in many cases. We'll show you how it's done.
IE: When is a downgrade possible?
- If, for example, IE 8 is preinstalled under your Windows version, you can downgrade again without problems after an update to version 9.
- If the version you want is older than the pre-installed version, the browser is not compatible with the system.
- Downgrading is also not possible under Windows 8 for security reasons.
Downgrade Internet Explorer to an older version
- Open the Control Panel and click on the "Programs" category.
- Select the "Show installed updates" option under "Programs and Features".
- Look for "Internet Explorer" in the list of updates.
- Right click on it and choose "Uninstall".
- Then click "Yes" and "Restart now".
- The originally installed version of Internet Explorer is now available again.
A downgrade is generally not advisable, since older versions are becoming increasingly insecure and no longer receive updates. If you would like to update the browser again, we will show you how it works in this practical tip.
