iOS 9: Downgrade to iOS 8 - how it works
If you want to go back from iOS 9 to iOS 8.4.1, the downgrade is only possible on the PC and not directly on the iOS device. We'll show you how to do it step by step.
iOS 9: Important information about downgrading to iOS 8
- iOS 9 is downloaded and installed wirelessly to your iOS device via WLAN. Reset the device, but still stay with iOS 9.
- The downgrade is only possible on the PC using a somewhat more unusual method. If you want to back up your data, you can do a backup with iTunes or iCloud.
- The downgrade is only possible for a short time. As soon as Apple deletes the certificates for iOS 8 from their servers, they have to live with iOS 9. So if you want to go back to the old OS, you should hurry.
Downgrade from iOS 9 to iOS 8
- Open the IPSW.me website and download the correct iOS version for your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
- Connect the iOS device to the computer with a USB cable and start iTunes.
- Select the device at the top left, you will find the button "Restore iPhone" on the right side.
- Hold down the Shift key (Windows) or the Alt key (Mac) and click the button.
- Now select the downloaded iOS file and open it. Then iOS 8.4.1 will be installed on your device.
