iPad: The most important settings for your privacy
To protect your privacy on the iPad, you have to make the appropriate settings yourself. We show you where to find them and what you should pay attention to.
Limit location services on iPad
With the location services, every app can check your location. Exactly which data is stored by the location remains unclear.
- Open the "Settings" app and tap the "Privacy" category in the middle.
- The "Location Services" lists all apps that currently have access to the GPS function.
- For each app, choose between the options "Never", "Always" and "When using the app". You should be particularly vigilant with the "Always" option. In this case, you can also be located when the app is closed.
Check access rights of apps on the iPad
Most apps not only have one authorization on your iPad, but several. But does a game app absolutely have to have access to your contacts?
- Stay in the "Settings" app under the "Privacy" category.
- Especially under the categories "Contacts", "Calendar", "Photos", "Camera" and "Bluetooth Sharing" you will find the apps that have access to these areas.
- If access to an app is not sensible, simply deactivate it.
Privacy on iPad: Disable ad tracking in Safari
Ad tracking analyzes your surfing behavior and accordingly places suitable advertisements on websites. You can prevent this collection of data yourself.
- Scroll down a bit in the "Settings" app and select the "Safari" item.
- Under the category "Data Protection & Security", activate the option "No Tracking".
- You can also prohibit or at least restrict the collection of cookies here.
