iPhone 6: record 4K video - does it work?
The iPhone 6 offers one of the best smartphone cameras currently available, but according to Apple it cannot record 4K videos. We'll show you how it works.
iPhone 6: record 4K video - does it work?
- App developers found that the iPhone 6 can play and record 4K videos. Apple itself has never mentioned or confirmed the 4K compatibility of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.
- Memory is always scarce on smartphones and very expensive, especially at Apple. By recording a 4K video, the memory is full within a few seconds or minutes.
- You can currently "only" record in HD via the camera app. This works with 30 or 60 FPS (frames per second) in Full HD 1080p. For 4K recordings, however, you currently need an additional app. The 4K videos can also be played without any problems.

iPhone 6: Record 4K video
With the right apps, 4K video recording is not only possible on the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, but also on the iPhone 5S.
- Depending on the application, the videos are recorded in a maximum resolution of 3264 x 2448 pixels. The maximum number of frames per second (FPS) is 30.
- Around 50 MB of storage space is required per second. That makes around 3 GB after a minute. Your clips will be saved in M-JPEG or H.264 format.
- You can currently get the Ultrakam 4K and ProCam 2 app for around 9 euros in the App Store. The ProCam 2 app is cheaper, but activating the 4K option costs an additional fee. In the end, both apps cost exactly the same.
